Why did Ryan Dunn take the long route?

I heard through the grapevine (I live in west chester)...that his friend, Zach, lived off the Exton/route 100 exit so that is why he drove that way going home - he was dropping his friend off. They missed the exit and you can see the skid marks how he went over the guard rail trying to make the turn for the ramp.
